Job Description
Position Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced caregiver to provide in-home support for an adult with dementia and associated behavioural challenges. This is a role that requires patience, consistency, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Responsibilities
• Assist with daily living activities including personal hygiene, meals, and mobility
• Monitor and respond to behavioural episodes (agitation, confusion, resistance to care) using de-escalation techniques
• Follow established routines to support predictability and reduce distress
• Communicate observations and changes in condition to family members
• Accompany to appointments and outings as needed
• Maintain a safe, calm home environment
Required Qualifications
• Prior experience with dementia care (memory care facility or in-home)
• Familiarity with behavioural support strategies (redirection, validation therapy)
• CPR/First Aid certification
• Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)
• Strong observational and communication skills
Preferred
• PSW certificate or equivalent
• Training in Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) or similar dementia-specific programs
