Job Description
We are looking for an experienced restaurant host/hostess to work in our busy restaurant with a buffet setting. You will ensure a smooth and enjoyable dining experience for guests.
Duties & Responsibilities
(1) Greeting and Seating Guests:
• Warmly welcome guests as they arrive at the restaurant, creating a positive first impression.
• Assess guest preferences, group size, and special needs to allocate suitable seating in the buffet area.
• Manage guest waitlists during peak hours, accurately estimating wait times and providing regular updates.
(2) Buffet Coordination:
• Collaborate with the buffet manager to ensure efficient seating and flow of guests in the buffet area.
• Assist guests in navigating the buffet, providing information about the available dishes, and answering questions about dietary restrictions or food allergies.
• Monitor buffet stations to ensure their cleanliness, organization, and proper refilling of food items.
(3) Reservations and Guest Relations:
• Manage and organize reservations, ensuring prompt and accurate recording of bookings and special requests.
• Communicate with guests to confirm reservations, gather relevant information, and prepare tables accordingly.
• Address guest concerns or complaints professionally and promptly, providing appropriate solutions or escalating issues to the restaurant management, if necessary.
(4) Communication and Teamwork:
• Liaise with the kitchen and serving staff to prioritize seating arrangements and ensure seamless coordination between the buffet and kitchen areas.
• Maintain effective communication with the serving staff to facilitate the prompt flow of food and beverage orders.
• Keep the restaurant management informed about concerns, feedback, or any operational issues that require attention.
(5) Guest Satisfaction:
• Continuously focus on enhancing the guest experience by anticipating their needs and providing exceptional service.
• Proactively identify opportunities to offer personalized recommendations, special promotions, or upselling of menu items to enhance guest satisfaction and increase revenue.
(6) Efficient Table Turnover:
• Strive to maintain an efficient table turnover rate, ensuring that guests are seated promptly and efficiently throughout their visit.
• Monitor and manage table availability to accommodate walk-in guests and reduce wait times.
• Familiarity with the operation of the POS system to assist with issuing receipts and managing bills.
Skills
• Previous experience as a host/hostess or in customer service roles is an asset
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to provide exceptional customer service.
• Excellent organizational skills to manage guest reservations and seating arrangements effectively.
• Positive attitude, friendliness, and a professional demeanour.
• Ability to handle difficult situations or demanding guests with patience and tact.
Employment Requirements:
• Completion of secondary school is usually required.
• Several weeks of on-the-job training are usually required.
Flexibility with working hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
