Qualifications:
– Ability to communicate orally and in writing in English is required
– Completion of secondary (high) school is required
– Completion of a four- or five-year tool and die making apprenticeship program or a combination of over five years of work experience in the trade and some high school, college or industry courses in tool and die making is required
Job duties:
– Program CNC machine tools;
– Inspect and test final products;
– Set up and operate electrical discharge machines (EDM);
– Set up, operate and maintain a variety of conventional and computer numerically controlled (CNC)machine tools;
– Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and work-in-process documentation to verify work piece material, and identify and select tooling and measuring instruments or checking devices;
– Lay out, shape and assemble patterns of metal, wood, plastic and other materials from blueprints, models or templates;
– Compute dimensions and tolerances and set up machine tools;
– Position, secure, measure and work metal stock or castings to lay out for machining;
– Operate and maintain machine tools;
– Machine, fit and assemble tool components;
– Fit and assemble or disassemble parts using hand tools;
– Verify machined parts for conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments to ensure accuracy of the diameter, depth, concentricity, position and finish of cut holes;
– Test completed tools, dies, jigs or fixtures for proper operation;
– Ensure work area and machines are kept clean, organized and tidy at all times;
– Store equipment and tools properly when not in use.

– Computer and technology knowledge: AutoCAD
– Tool and die fabrication experience: Gauges or instruments, Jigs and fixtures, Metal cutting, forming or bending dies, Compound or progressive transfer dies, Forging die, Extrusion dies
– Work conditions and physical capabilities: Fast-paced environment, Handling heavy loads, Manual dexterity, Attention to detail, Hand-eye co-ordination, Standing for extended periods, Overtime required
